Guns and Roses in Argentina

The band fronted by Axl Rose played the first concert in the country 18 years ago. The visit of the Guns and Roses in Argentina, in 1992, was quite revolutionary. The guns presented their album "Use Your Illusion.

They stayed at the Hiatt hotel, in the presidential suite. The fans gathered on the streets and went crazy every time the musicians peered over the balcony to greet. As usual, there were incidents with the police and the government.

Both concerts were held in the stadium of River Plate, and there was an outstanding energy. The concert began with Nightrain, as in every show. The version of November Rain, with an emotional and timeless intro of Axl and Slash, was memorable, as well as the interpretations of all their greatest hits.

Surprisingly, the guns returned to Argentina a year later. Only the original members of the band arrived to the country, without vocals or drums, or winds. It was something completely different from what had happened the first time. They ended the concert with Paradise City, and the Argentines were very excited. There was a sort of communion between fans and the band.

The rest of the story is known. "The Spaghetty Incident" is ousted by the criticism, there was infighting and separation. Axl kept the rights to the name; assembled a new group and in 1997 he began “Chinese Democracy”. It took the band 10 years to get the album out.

Finally it was released in 2009, and Axl started a world tour with his new band.

The Guns and Roses show in Argentina was scheduled for Saturday, March 20, 2010, in the River Plate Stadium (same scenario as that of the 90s). But everything went wrong: the show was in Velez Stadium, (with less capacity and poorer sound), there were incidents at the entrance and the worst of all was that the public couldn’t hear Axl's voice.

Guns and Roses in Argentina were controversial, unpredictable and great.
