Radio Mitre (790 kHz AM) is one of the most important radios in Argentina. It belongs to Grupo Clarín, one of largest multimedia of the country. Radio Mitre Argentina delivers breaking national and world news. The station is famous for its newswire service every 30 minutes called Mitre Informa Primero (Mitre Reports First). In addition, many Argentines listen to Radar de Tránsito Mitre, to hear the latest traffic conditions of Buenos Aires.
Radio Mitre Argentina is also known for the agricultural information. Journalist Carlos Lencina hosts the program Mitre y el campo (Mitre and the countryside). It airs Monday through Friday at 6:35, 8:35, 12:35 and 18:35.
The most important programs of the radio are: Primera Mañana (First Morning) hosted by Nelson Castro, a renowned journalist from Argentina; Hola Chiche (Hello Chiche) hosted by Chiche Gelblung, a very famous journalist with acid humor; El club de la Tarde (Afternoon Club) hosted by Ernesto Tenembaum and Sábado Tempranísimo (very early Saturday), hosted by Marcelo Bonelli.
Radio Mitre Argentina was created in 1925 under the name of LOZ Broadcasting Nation, because the radio belonged to the Mitre family, founder of La Nacion newspaper. Later it was named Radio Mitre. The first broadcast was from the neighborhood of Flores in Buenos Aires and later, the radio moved to Arenales 1925. This was the home of Lalo Pelliari, a football reporter from the ‘50s that bought the radio.
Like most of the media of the country, Radio Mitre Argentina had several owners. During the government of Peron, the radio belonged to the state and during the military dictatorship (in 70)
It broadcasted from the building of Maipú 555. In the 80's it was bought by the producer Julio Moyano and radio moved into the building where it is today in 2668 Mansilla. Grupo Clarín bought it a decade ago.
