What Foods are Typically Eaten in Argentina


Argentina is known for its meat. Many recipes contain meat and Argentines prepare it in different ways. The asado (barbecue) is the national dish, usually served with fries and salads. The Argentines are not limited to traditional courts: they eat sweetbreads, pork sausage and blood sausage.

Then there is the famous bife de chorizo (steak) and the breaded meat (milanesa), which is meat prepared with eggs, breadcrumbs and then fried. The carbonada is another typical meal that consists of meat mixed with potatoes, sweet potatoes and corn.

What foods are typically eaten in Argentina? Empanadas are another popular food. It is a dough stuffed with various mixtures: meat, ham and cheese, chicken, etc. They are used as starter but a can also be eaten as a main dish. Caution: the empanadas are high in calories although you will not notice this.

Argentina is characterized by the influence of European cuisine (Italian, French and Spanish), rather than Latin American cuisine. Pizza is one of the typical dishes of the country. They eat it with lots of cheese and the dough is thin, as in Italy.

What foods are typically eaten in Argentina? Like meat, pasta is also eaten throughout the country. Argentines eat noodles, ravioli, gnocchi and cannelloni. In many cities there are shops that prepare homemade pasta.

The Italian influence is evident in the many ice cream parlors that exist all over the country. The ice creams are popular all over Argentina. The dulce de leche flavour is a traditional dessert. We recommend eating ice cream in Persico, Freddo and Volta. They are the most expensive ice cream parlors, but the best in the country.

Dulce de leche is a traditional dessert. Argentineans eat cakes filled with dulce de leche, toast and pancakes. Argentines also eat many alfajores, shortbread cookies sandwiched together with dulce de leche or chocolate. In the kiosks there are hundreds of brands alfajores. We recommend trying the alfajor Havanna, the country's most traditional one, and Cachafaz.

A typical drink is an infusion called mate. The yerba is served in a mate and is taken with a bulb. If you are not used to it, it can be very bitter, but we recommend trying it because it is the drink that characterizes the Argentines.
