According to CheckFacebook, (http://www.checkfacebook.com/) there are nearly 7 million users of Facebook in Argentina, this represents 2.61 of the total population of the site. 30% of the users are between 18 and 24 years of age and 27% are between 25 and 34 years of age. 53% of the users are women and 47%, men.
Facebook Argentina grew significantly in recent years. Argentina is the country with more Facebook users in Latin America, followed by Chile and Colombia. However, it is expected that Mexico will have the large number of users in the region, due to the inhabitants in the country.
Many Argentines are addicted to Facebook. According to the study of a consultancy of Argentina, 47% of Internet users in the country use social networks. And of these, 89% have a profile on Facebook.
Why Facebook grew so much in Argentina? First, Argentina has a large number of upper middle class internet users who have computers at home. In addition, Argentines are open and sociable and like to be in touch with friends. Friendship is a cherished value in the country.
Argentines usually use the net to keep in touch with friends, to entertain, to resume contact with old friends and make new friends. So the site is mainly used for social purposes: the users like to learn about the lives of their contacts and communicate with them.
Most Argentines also participate in other virtual social networks, mainly in Linkedin. Twitter is also popular in Argentina, but not so much because until recently it didn’t have a Spanish version. In Brazil, however Twitter is more popular than Facebook. The Brazilians also use
Google's Orkut network. Another popular social network in the region is HI FI, but in Argentina it had little effect. The argentines also use Sonico, a local social network.
