New Year is celebrated in Argentina among family, as Christmas. Usually family members gather at a house and each one has to bring a particular food. On 31 December is summer in Argentina and extremely hot (with temperatures between 30 and 40 degrees) so food is served cold. The typical dishes are: cold meat, vitel tone, quiches, potato and eggs salad and sometimes turkey. Some families choose to roast or grill a pig, but it is not so common. Argentines drink a lot of alcohol during New Year like beer, champagne and liquors.

How is New Year’s celebrated in Argentina? Before dinner they serve the famous picada, which is tradition in the country. Is a table of different types of cheese, ham, salami and potato chips. They have it with fresh bread.

After the picada and around 10 pm, dinner is served. In Catholic families, which are many in Argentina, the food is blessed.

How is New Year’s celebrated in Argentina? The dress code for New Year is indistinct. But in recent years, many women dress in white, imitating a Brazilian tradition. It is a custom for many Argentines to spend New Year abroad. Generally, wealthy people travel to Punta Del Este, a seaside resort in Uruguay, Others go to the beaches of Brazil.

After the meal, comes the dessert that can be ice cream (the dulce de leche flavour is a classic) or some cake. Along with dessert argentines eat nougat, hazelnuts and walnuts.

How is New Year’s celebrated in Argentina? The toast is done at twelve o'clock while shouting: Happy New Year! It is not a tradition to give a kiss like in the United States, simply bump the tops of champagne or cider . While toasting, you must look in to the eyes, it’s but like if you don’t do so. At 12 the fireworks and firecrackers, are lit, which are also tradition in Argentina.
