What is the proportion between men and women in Argentina?

The last National population census was carried out in Argentina in 2001. The Government organizes the census every ten years. According to these data, what is the proportion between men and women in Argentina? In 2001, 17,659,072 men and 18,601,058 women lived in the country. There were 48.7% of males and 51.3% women. The sex ratio (number of males per 100 females) was 94.9.

But according to estimates in 2010, Argentina has 20.355 million men and 21.119 women.

The sex ratio reached a peak in 1914 with a value of 115.5 (53.5% men). In 1960, men and women were balanced, but the sex ratio declined in 1991.

The difference between men and women is not as large as in other countries. Anyway, the proportion varies according to age. According to estimates, in 2010 in the 0 to 14 year age group there are 5,369,477 men and 5,122,260 women. In the 15-64 year age group women outnumber men (13,029,265 versus 12,961,725). Finally, in the people over 65 group , women also outnumber men (2,611,800 1,819,057 women against men).

What is the proportion between men and women in Argentina? In Buenos Aires City, capital of the country, the ratio is similar. According to the 2001 census, at that time there were 1,258,358 men and 1,517,680 women living in the city.

Argentina is a country with low population density (14 inhabitants / km ²). Most people live in cities (89%) and are concentrated in the Agglomeration of Greater Buenos Aires (33%). Greater Buenos Aires includes the city of Buenos Aires and the surrounding areas belonging to the province. Like Cuba, Uruguay and Chile, Argentina is characterized by a large proportion of people over 60 years (14.1%). Life expectancy is high (75.2 years) as well as literacy (97.4%).
