The Public Library of Buenos Aires is the forerunner to the National Library and was established by the First Board ( thefirst Argentinean government), in September 13, 1810. Its first headquarters was in the Manzana de las Luces, at the intersection of Moreno and Peru, in San Telmo. The library represented in the late nineteenth century a reservoir and cultural heritage. Then the library moved to Mexico 564, also in San Telmo. The construction of Aguero's headquarters building started in 1970 and was completed only in 1993. The building is an emblem of Buenos Aires and was built by the famous architect Clorindo Testa.
