Argentina National Team

Argentina National Team is the national football team of Argentina. It is called this way because it is the most representative team of Argentina in official competitions. Argentina National Team is controlled by the Argentine Football Association (AFA) and is one of the most successful football teams in the world.

The team has twice won the World Cup in 1978 and 1986, and was a finalist in 1930 and 1990.

Argentina won the Copa America 14 times, a record only shared with Uruguay. In addition the team won the gold medal in the Olympic Games of 2004 and 2008. The team also won the silver medal in the Olympic Games of 1928 and 1996.

Only Argentina and France have won the three most important men's titles recognized by FIFA: the World Cup, the Olympic Games and the Confederations Cup.

Great players in football history have played in Argentina. Such as: Diego Armando Maradona, one of the best players ever, Claudio Paul Caniggia, Omar Batistuta, Mario Kempes, Daniel Passarella and Oscar Ruggeri, among others.

In March 2007, Argentina was ranked first in the FIFA World Rankings, but only lasted a month. The team is currently seventh in the ranking.

The official uniform of Argentina National Team consists of light blue and white vertical striped shirt (hence it is called the Albiceleste). The pants are black and the socks are white with blue stripes. The team is sponsored by Adidas.

Argentina archrival is Brazil. Nowadays this is one of the greatest classics of the world. Another historic rival is England, especially after the Falklands War of 1982. Argentina eliminated the English team with two goals from Diego Maradona. One of them is considered the best goal of the world and the other one is remembered in the country as "the hand of God”, because Maradona scored with his hand. Another classic is with Uruguay, which borders Argentina.
