Map of Argentina

Argentina is located at the southern tip of South America. The country is bordered by Bolivia, Brazil, Uruguay, Chile and Paraguay and its capital is the city of Buenos Aires. If you look at the map of Argentina, you will see that the country is divided into 23 provinces. The vastness of Argentine territory and the different climates offers all kinds of landscapes such as: mountains, vast plains, colorful deserts, rivers, lakes, glaciers, forests and woodlands.

The provinces of Salta and Jujuy are located in the north of Argentina. These provinces are known for their colorful mountains and culture. It was a rich area inhabited by local Indians, until the invasion of the Peruvian Incas. You can still see houses and churches from the time of the Spanish conquest. We recommend visiting the Quebrada de Humahuaca in Jujuy.

A little to the northeast you will find the provinces of Chaco, Formosa and Santiago del Estero. These are the poorest provinces in the country and it is not a tourist area.

The provinces of Entre Ríos, Corrientes and Misiones are located on the northeast. They form the region of Mesopotamia, an area of dense vegetation and abundant rainfall. We recommend visiting the Esteros del Ibera in Corrientes and the Iguazú Falls in Misiones.

If you look at the map of Argentina, you will also see that underneath Salta there are Catamarca and Tucumán. It is worth visiting these two provinces, especially Catamarca, where there is the Ischigualasto Provincial Park, a desert that resembles the lunar landscape.

Cuyo region covers the provinces of La Rioja, San Juan, Mendoza and a small part of northern Neuquén. This is a mountain region and a very beautiful place to visit. We recommend Mendoza because is more prepared for tourism. You will also find there the Aconcagua, the highest mountain in America.

Then there is the Pampas region consisting of Buenos Aires, Santa Fe, Cordoba and La Pampa. We recommend visiting Buenos Aires, the capital of the country, and Cordoba, famous for its mountains and rivers.

The province of San Luis is one of the richest in the country. It highlights the city of Merlo.

Finally, in the south, there is the famous Patagonia that covers the provinces of Neuquen, Rio Negro, Santa Cruz, Chubut and Tierra del Fuego. It is one of the most beautiful areas of Argentina, known for its high mountains, deserts and blue lakes.
