Map of Argentina

The Republic of Argentina is located at the southern tip of South America. Its capital is the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires, located on the western shore of the estuary of the Rio de la Plata. The territory is divided into 23 provinces.

Argentina is bordered by Bolivia and Paraguay in the north, by Brazil in the northeast, by Uruguay and the Atlantic Ocean in the east and by Chile in the south and west.

Due to its length, Argentina is the fourth largest country in America, after the United States, Canada and Brazil and eighth in the world. According to the Argentine government, the surface of the territory is 3,761,274 sq km. Of those, 969 464 km ² belong to the Antarctica and the South Arcades Islands and the Austral Islands (South Georgia and South Sandwich). Argentina claims the islands that are administered by the United Kingdom.

If you look at the map of Argentina, you will see in the east, the famous Andes, the world's longest continental mountain range. The chain runs from north to south and borders the Pacific Ocean coast. The average altitude is 4000 meters, but there are points that exceed 6000. The highest point of the Andes range is the Aconcagua a mountain of 6962 meters, located in the province of Mendoza.

The map of Argentina also indicates that the country is bordered by the Atlantic Ocean in the east. Although the country has great stretch of beach, the most popular beaches are located in the province of Buenos Aires. Some important beaches are Mar del Plata, Necochea, Pinamar and Villa Gesell. However, Argentine beaches are not like those of Brazil, the sea is cold and darker and the sand is not white.

Besides beaches, Argentina has all kinds of landscapes as: desert, mountains, plains, forests and jungles.

The large extension of the Country also determines a wide variety of climates: in the north there are humid subtropical climates and in the south the weather is cold. In most parts of the country the climate is temperate.
