Where Agriculture is Located in Argentina

Argentina´s different soils and climates allow a great diversity of agricultural production. Argentina has been an agricultural country since the late nineteenth century and today is one of the largest food exporters in the world.

Where agriculture is located in Argentina? There are crops all over the country, but the most important region is the Pampa, which covers the provinces of Buenos Aires, La Pampa and Santa Fe. The region from Buenos Aires to Rosario (located in Santa Fe), has turned into an agricultural area where soybean is cultivated. Soybean is also grown in the northeast and northwest of the country. Sunflower and sorghum crops are also cultivated in the Pampa region.

During the 70s, soybean began to spread in Argentina. Argentina is one of the world's largest exporters of soybeans. Most of the products are exported to China, U.S. and European countries.

Wheat, corn, flax, alfalfa and other grains like oats, barley are also cultivated in the Pampas region.

Where agriculture is located in Argentina? In Mesopotamia, which covers the provinces of Entre Rios, Misiones and Corrientes, they cultivate tea and yerba mate, one of the country's largest infusions. There are also some rice paddies. Tobacco is cultivated especially in the province of Misiones.

The valleys of Mendoza and San Juan specialize in growing fruit, olives, citrus and vineyards. Much of the wine production is exported. Argentina is known for its excellent quality of wine, especially for its Malbec.

La Rioja and Catarmarca, located northeast of the country, also specialize in growing fruit as well as Río Negro. Argentina exports mostly grapes, apples and pears.

Sugar cane, very important for the food industry, is cultivated mostly in Tucumán, and in Jujuy, Salta and Chaco.

Nowadays, more than one fifth of Argentine exports were unprocessed agricultural primary goods, mainly soybeans and wheat.
