Bars in Buenos Aires

Bars and cafes are a second home for the porteños. The bar is the ideal place to study, read, chat with friends, watch TV or stare out the window.

In recent years, numerous alternative bars prompted with different proposals. There are bars for all tastes: traditional, alternative, entertainment, sports, theme, literary and so on.

Among the oldest, there are the "Tortoni" and the "36 Billares" in Avenida de Mayo, "El Banderín”, in Abasto, "La Giralda and La Paz", in Corrientes, "El Británico" in the Park Lezama, "Las Violetas" in Medrano and Rivadavia and "La Biela", in Recoleta. We recommend to on the afternoon for a beer or drink the famous coffee of Buenos Aires accompanied by a medialuna.

If you're looking for something more modern, Palermo and Las Cañitas are your places. Congo, located in Honduras 5329, is a good choice for the typical hot night in Buenos Aires. It has a courtyard decorated with plants and reeds and you can find a good selection of drinks. Another good place in Palermo is Acabar (in Honduras 5733). Unlike Congo, in Acabar the atmosphere is relaxed and informal. There are board games and generally there are groups of friends.

If you want sophistication, cocktails and sushi the Gran Bar Danzon, in Retiro (Libertad and Santa Fe), is the ideal choice. New York merges with Buenos Aire in this bar: the atmosphere is cool, sophisticated and modern. In Recoleta there is Milion (Paraná 1048). Housed in an incredibly attractive old french mansion you can order tapas, wines and cocktails. Reservations are pretty much a must if you want to secure a table in the restaurant.

The Federal is located in San Telmo (Carlos Calvo 599) and is ideal for an afternoon of beer and a picada (a plate of cheeses and meats presented in a wooden board). Inside, you'll find walls covered with old dusty bottles and wooden tables with carved initials on the surface. It is been opened since 1864.
