What do they Eat for Breakfast in Argentina?

Breakfast in Argentina is very different from the United States. Lunch and dinner are the most important meals in Argentina. In fact, many Argentines would rather not eat breakfast and grab something at work.

What do you they eat for breakfast in Argentina? Breakfast is between 7 and 9 in the morning, during weekdays, and later on the weekends. Argentines will have a coffee, or tea or the famous mate (a bitter infusion that is prepared in a container also called mate and taken with a bulb). In various provinces OF the country mate is taken with sugar.

On weekends, the infusions are often accompanied with something sweet like medialunas (which are similar to French croissants), facturas (pastries, usually stuffed with dulce de leche), cookies (but not chocolate chip ones) or crackers.

What do they eat for breakfast in Argentina? During the week, they have a toast with cheese, dulce de leche, jam or butter. They also eat cereals, which are available in any supermarket. The classic breakfast consists of a cup of coffee or mate and two toast.

A few years ago, the first Starbucks opened in Argentina. Now there are several throughout the city of Buenos Aires and in the shopping malls. Coffee to go is increasingly popular, but porteños still prefer the classic coffee. Argentina is known for the quality of its coffee. It is much stronger than the U.S. and is taken in smaller cups.

We recommend eating breakfast at Cafe Tortoni, the oldest café in the city, located at Avenida de Mayo 825 and also at the Bar Británico, in Brasil and Defensa. If you want to try the mate, you can go to Mister Mate, in Estados Unidos 500, in San Telmo. Another good place is Las Cholas, Arce 306 in Cañitas. They offer baskets of biscuits or homemade bread with jam and dulce de leche.
